Developing Engaging Programs for People with Alzheimer's and Memory Loss and their Caregivers

The day will feature lectures, workshops and small group activities on many topics including:

 

  • Keynote presentation by Michael Patterson, co-founder of Mind Ramp & Associates who will highlight the compelling research behind creativity and cognitive enhancement and the importance in increasing your brain fitness through creative activities.
  • An intensive 1 hour training on The TimeSlips Creative Storytelling Project led by Dr. Anne Basting, Founder of TimeSlips.  The program focuses on forgetting memory and instead using communication, imagination and the present to inspire people with memory loss to tell stories. 
  • A hands-on 1 hour workshop on the MoMA Programs in Art and Dementia led by Laurel Humble, which has trained countless museums and senior centers to provide arts engagement programs for people with dementia and their caregivers.
  • "I Remember Better When I Paint," a documentary film about a person with Alzheimer's who finds meaning and purpose through painting narrated by Olivia de Havilland.
  • A musical performance by Cathy DeWitt, MoonDancer Productions; Music Director, Unity of Gainesville; Host/Producer, Across the Prarie, WUFT-FM
