Bringing Dance to People with Dementia

This workshop by Dance for Connection is designed to teach activity professionals, creative arts therapists, caregivers and others to create opportunities for people with dementia to dance and move joyfully. Topics will include elements of dance, group leadership, use of music, props and humor. Participants will have the opportunity to observe, participate, and lead a part of two groups of people with dementia. Highly recommended: a love of dance and working with people with dementia.

American Society on Aging Annual Conference

Playwrights Project New Play Festival

Playwrights Project invites seniors to enjoy these dynamic new plays written by seniors, based on their life experiences. Lifestages Reflections is a full production of plays from Playwrights Project’s Recollections playwriting program for adult playwrights ages 55+, as part of our 27th annual New Play Festival. Reflections will rotate in repertory with Plays by Young Writers, our annual production of winning scripts from our statewide playwriting contest for writers 18 and under.

Thought Leader Forum on Arts & Aging

On April 6, 2011—with support from MetLife—Grantmakers in Arts, the National Center for Creative Aging, and Grantmakers in Aging brought together frontrunners in funding health, wellness, and the arts and aging fields with arts and aging practitioners, researchers, and other experts. Twenty-six individuals gathered at the Arena Stage Mead Center for American Theatre in Washington, DC to explore their common ground and the potential benefits of working together.

Washington, DC Geriatric Education Center Consortium & NCCA Best Practice Forum

The Forum, Best Practices for Integrating Humanities and the Arts in Healthcare of the Older Adult, was developed as a special project of the Washington DC Area Geriatric Education Center Consortium (WAGECC) and the National Center for Creative Aging (NCCA) to showcase best practices in health care in the region.
