UVa Program for Older Adults Grows in Popularity

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA has grown exponentially since its beginning in 2001.  About 125 students registered in the OLLI program’s first semester. There are now 1,800 adults registered for classes including poetry, criminal justice and more.  OLLIs operate across the country, and have proven to be a drawing factor for retirees choosing where to retire.  “I’m not sure I would have moved here if they didn’t have an OLLI program,” said Patricia Bristowe, who was involved in OLLI in Sacramento, CA before moving to Charlottesville.  “Frankly, I don’t know what older folks did before OLLI.”
