Speaker to Focus on Aging Population

Illinois Central College will host “Building an Age Friendly Community,” a program to highlight the increasing number of seniors aging in our society today and how we can improve our community to accommodate their needs. The keynote speaker will be David Baxter of Age Wave, a company focused on marketing for older adults. He explains that today seniors are becoming more active and will continue to make positive contributions to society. "The prior model of a retirement village was disengagement. The first one was built out in a desert. Now it's engagement. Older adults want access," said Baxter. The program slated for October 3rd will explore how implementing changes in health services, housing, transportation, and recreational opportunities will benefit the aging population and create a more productive community.
