Meeting People, Staying Active Helps the Aging Process

Seniors in Gainesville, FL find that regular fitness and aerobics classes have helped improve their health significantly since they began. Staying active helps fight blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis, and several other conditions, as well as helping to accelerate the rehabilitation process. Shirley Waterman, an 81-year-old Gainesville resident, has taught fitness classes to fellow seniors for the past 10 years. In addition to the health benefits, Waterman and her students find new companionship to be just as enjoyable. "Isolation for older adults is really a big factor in the decline of their health," says Dr. Thomas Buford, who specializes in gerontology.
