Exercise powers older adults to long, healthy lives

In Buffalo, more seniors are experimenting with different sports and exercise programs at local community centers. The city has sponsored several initiatives to promote greater physical activity among the older population, including a free fitness program called Club 99. “Exercise is a lifestyle, and it can power you through any decade of your life,” according medical experts who praise the seniors for their enthusiasm. Physical activity has also contributed to the growing number of centenarians that continue to age with grace and strength.  The U.S. Census Bureau predicts there will be over 800,000 centenarians by the year 2050 due to widespread trend of fitness programs like those in Buffalo. The programs also offer a social aspect to the seniors’ lives. “We’ve all got arthritis, so why not ache together?” says one 84-year-old.
