A Poem for You

A Homebound Older Adult

From my armchair
in my sanctuary,
I wander, I roam.
My mind goes yonder,
far, far away from home.
The world opens wide.
As I continue to reflect,
thoughts I would never expect
appear and with them I connect.
Ahh, my mind is still there.
My mind is still aware.
This is one aspect of positive
creative aging.

We here at NCCA would like to wish a very Happy Hanukah to those members of our NCCA family celebrating this week!  We have been so overwhelmed by your response to our first annual The Gift of Creativity campaign in this holiday season – thank you for your stories, your poems, and your support.

If you have not yet had the opportunity to do so, NCCA asks that you join The Gift of Creativity campaign and honor the lives of your loved ones.  This year, when you send in your Tax-Deductible Contribution to NCCA, we ask that you send it in memory of your family members by Sharing Your Story with us about their lives, their creativity, and their inspiration.  Each of the stories that we receive will, with your permission, be featured upon our website where they can inspire the older adults and professionals in the arts and aging fields who visit us every day!  Your stories can be submitted online or you can contact us at (202) 895-9456 to set up an interview for your story.

During this holiday season of reflection and giving, give the gift of creativity and support NCCA!  You can reach Alecia Torres de Valdez at (202) 895-9456 or at atorres@creativeaging.org with any questions about The Gift of Creativity campaign at NCCA.  Contributions can be made online via credit card online and checks can be mailed to 4125 Albemarle Street, NW, Washington, DC 20016.
