National Center for Creative Aging to Receive National Endowment for the Arts Grant for ART CART: SAVING THE LEGACY
Award is among 1,023 Made Nationally

WASHINGTON, DC – May 6, 2015 - Through it’s grant-making to thousands of nonprofits each year, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) promotes opportunities for people in communities across America to experience the arts and exercise their creativity.

In the second major grant announcement of fiscal year 2015, the NEA will make a $15,000 award to the National Center for Creative Aging for ART CART: SAVING THE LEGACY, a project created by the Research Center for Arts and Culture. An interdisciplinary, intergenerational project, ART CART matches students in the arts, health and aging with older visual artists in Washington, DC and New York City to document their work and save our national legacy. The NEA will make 1,023 awards totaling $74.3 million nationwide in this funding round.

NEA Chairman Jane Chu said, “The NEA is committed to advancing learning, fueling creativity, and celebrating the arts in cities and towns across the United States. Funding these new projects like the one from the National Center for Creative Aging’s Research Center for Arts and Culture represents an investment in both local communities and our nation’s creative vitality.”

“ART CART: SAVING THE LEGACY provides a unique service to older professional artists, casting them as models of resilience, tenacity and positive aging. Created by Joan Jeffri out of seminal research called Above Ground, it empowers artists and students to respect our nation’s diverse artistic legacy and play an integral role in saving it,” says NCCA Executive Director Gay Hanna.
