The Creative Age: National Leadership Exchange and Conference in DC Next Week!

Next week NCCA will host the first The Creative Age: National Leadership Exchange and Conference in Washington, DC June 10-14th. The conference will host over 300 arts and aging professionals from around the world to train, network, and learn all things creative aging at arts and culture facilities around Washington, DC. Beyond the conference main day and pre and post conferences, NCCA has a special focus on highlighting the Washington, DC community. Come visit us at these events, many of which are free.

Memory Arts Cafe
Tuesday, June 10th
Memory Arts Café is an art event for people living with Alzheimer's disease, their caregivers and the general public and is co-produced by the National Center for Creative Aging, Iona Senior Services, and the Alzheimer's Poetry Project. This Memory Arts Café features: poet Gary Glazner, Singer/song writer Judith-Kate Friedman; dancer Maria Genné; and improvisational theater artist, Jennie Smith-Peers.

Emerging Leaders Networking
Thursday, June 12th
On Thursday, June 12th, at 8:00 p.m. come hang out with students and early stage career professionals in creative aging at the Capital Skyline Hotel's poolside bar. This will be a great opportunity to connect with other professionals in the field and discuss the future of the field and your role in it. Fun will be had!

Liz Lerman's Healing Wars
Wednesday, June 11th
A pioneer in the world of contemporary dance, Liz Lerman’s newest theatrical dance piece explores the experiences of the healers tasked with treating the physical and psychic wounds of battle. Joined by Bill Pullman (Independence Day), an ensemble of dancers represent medics and soldiers from the Civil War to today.

For Boomers and Beyond: Celebrating the Aging Voice
Friday, June 13th
Creativity and Aging is alive and well at Encore! Encore is the nation’s largest choral organization for older adults. We celebrate the aging voice!  Encore provides a challenging choral environment while being attentive to the aging voice and body.  Encore Creativity for Older Adults is dedicated to providing an excellent and accessible artistic environment for older adults regardless of experience or ability, who seek arts education and performance opportunities under a professional artist. The session will include demonstration of specific breathing exercises and well-designed vocal warm-ups appropriate for the aging voice.

Raise it Up! Anthem for America
Saturday, June 14th
NCCA, Chorus America and the Kennedy Center partner with the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History on a spectacular event honoring the 200th anniversary of the Star-Spangled Banner.

This concert on the terrace of the Museum's Mall entrance will feature celebrity singers, the U.S. Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants, and a mass choir conducted by Eric Whitacre and Francisco J. Núñez. Arrangements for the mass choir, including recruitment and travel, have been made by Classical Movements, the official touring company for Voices of Our Nation. The event will be webcast so that people around the United States can add their voices to a 4:00 p.m. sing-a-long of the national anthem.
