Cleveland Museum of Art Distance Learning ProgramOrganization Associated with Program
The Cleveland Museum of Art’s (CMA) award winning distance learning program, started in 1999, connects participants from all over the country—and beyond—with the museum and its encyclopedic collection. Through live videoconferencing, participants view art and artifacts from around the world while sharing in two way conversations with museum educators.
Participants can talk as naturally as in a phone conversation to the museum presenter on screen. Because the museum presenter can actually see into the activity room, hear the participants comment, as well respond in real time to their questions, each side can communicate with ease. Viewers can examine at close range images of items from the museum’s collections. This includes everything from an Egyptian scribe’s ink palette to an illuminated book of prayers which belonged to Spain’s Queen Isabella. It’s a great way for participants to engage in high quality content that provides stimulating ideas, dialogue with experts, and exposure to different cultures throughout history.
Over 3,000 people participate per year to continue their love of learning, the visual arts, history, languages and literature with the CMA. The program has been recognized with the highest awards in its field: The Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC) Pinnacle Award and the Teacher’s Choice award.
These programs are evaluated multiple times throughout the year.
